How to Travel from Hanoi to Hoi An?

Hoi An is a famous ancient town in Quang Nam Province and is recognized as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 1999. The town situated on the Thu Bon riverside as a little port with a calming beauty. In 16th - 17th centuries, Hoi An was a busy river port where many tradesmen from Netherland, France, and China came to exchange their goods. Hoi An now is one of the best destination to go in Vietnam thanks to old streets, romantic landscapes, French and Chinese style buildings, and interesting cuisine. 

In order to travel from Hanoi to Hoi An, tourists will have many transportation modes to choose including airplane, train, open buses or motorbike.

There isn’t an airport in Hoi An City and Quang Nam Province as well. Therefore, travellers have to transit at Da Nang International Airport and take a taxi drive or a bus to the town. The airline ticket from Hanoi to Da Nang is about US $45 – 130 depending on the ticket class. A taxi drive from the airport to Hoi An is not very expensive, just around $30 each way. Despite of high fare, travel from Hanoi to Hoi An by plane still the 1st choice if affordable.

Travel from Hanoi to Hoi An by Train Is an Interesting Option.

Travellers can catch an overnight train from the capital city to Tam Ky Railway Station in Da Nang before transferring to Hoi An. This could costs about US $45 for a soft sleeper, and cheaper for other classes. Upon arrival at Tam Ky Station, tourists can continue taking a taxi or a bus. It is not too far to reach Hoi An ancient town, just around 30km of highway.

An Open Bus Travel from Hanoi to Hoi An Is the Cheapest Way to Go.

From My Dinh or Giap Bat Bus Station in Hanoi, tourists can easily catch an open bus straight to Hoi An. Travellers should take a sleeping bus because the driving distance is very far. The price of a bus is around $20 per person and it takes 15 hours to get to Hoi An. This is the cheapest way but quite dangerous because the driver have to drive during the night. 

A Motorbike Travel from Hanoi to Hoi An is a real adventure.

Comparing to the fares of flight or train, motorbike travel from Hanoi to Hoi An is much cheaper. In Hanoi, adventurers can rent a motorbike with reasonable rate, only US$5-10 per day. Riding the motorbike along the wonderful coastlines of Vietnam will be a lifetime experience for adventurous travellers. However, this mode of transportation is just recommended for tourists have experience of driving in Vietnam.
