Vietnam Weather

17 May 2015
Vietnam is a country bordered to the east by sea with a coastline of approximately 2500 km from North to South. The weather is rarely the same throughout the entire country at the same time. Most of the time, when it is sunny in one region, it is raining in another. Therefore, keep in mind that seasons are different in each region of the country.

NORTHERN VIETNAM

The best period to visit Northern Vietnam is autumn which begins in September and finishes in November: 20 - 30°C, low humidity, sunshine.
December, January and February correspond to the winter and the cold season: 8 -17°C.

In the high lands, the temperature can even dip to 0°C on some days, the humidity is high, the sky is grey and heavy with clouds and sunny days are rare.

March and April correspond to spring and the first hot season: 25-35°C, tempered humidity, sunshine that can be interrupted by short rain showers, heat haze is possible. After autumn, spring is the second best season to travel to Northern Vietnam.

Finally, May, June, July and August correspond to summer and the hot season: 28-40°C, high humidity, tropical heat and heavy rain at the end of the day or at night (1- 2 hours).

CENTRAL VIETNAM:

For coastal regions such as (Hue, Hoi An, Danang, Quy Nhon): the weather is similar to that of Northern Vietnam. The only difference is that there is also a storm period in October and November.

For the high lands (Buon Me Thuot, Kun Tum, Pleiku), the best season is from October to May with 20-30°C and sunshine. However, the temperature can vary quite considerably between the day and night time.

From June to September, it is really hot, 30 – 40°C, with high humidity, heat haze and sometimes rain during the day.

SOUTHERN VIETNAM: 2 SEASONS

The best time to visit the South of the country is normally from November to April: nice weather, sunshine, temperatures between 30°C and 34°C.

However, even though, the rainy season is normally from May to October, it is not always the case in all Southern provinces. For example, Nha Trang has a rainy season that starts in September and ends in

January. The best time to go there is from February to August whereas in Con Dao, the rainy season is from May to October. During the rainy season, the weather is unstable with often brutally heavy rain.
